It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Louis Johnson, born April 15, 1941, in Topeka, Kansas, to James L. Perkins and Mary Johnson. James passed, August 11, 2026 surrounded by family.
James proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from April 1960 to January 1964, spending much of his service overseas. After his honorable military service, he dedicated his life to hard work in various roles and ultimately retired from the City of Leavenworth, where he made his home for the past 40 years. He leaves behind one grandson, Chezarae Grossman of Denver, Colorado.
He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Gayla Grossman; and six siblings, David Perkins, Claude Johnson, Rebecca Dansby. Charles Perkins, Linda Wilkins, and Gary Wilkins. James leaves behind cherished memories with his sister, Brenda Redmon; and his brothers, Donald Perkins, Arthur Clark, Irwin Wilkins, and Clinton Wilkins. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
James found joy in life's simple pleasures- especially fishing and spending meaningful time with loved ones. His humor, warmth, and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In honor of his life and wishes, there will be no services. James will be cremated and laid to rest at Forth Leavenworth National Cemetery.
